Leave Room for Play
When families think about playroom design, the instinct is often to fill the space. Shelves, bins, activity tables, reading chairs... every corner accounted for.
But here’s the truth: open space is not wasted space. It’s the unsung hero of a playroom.
Children crave room to move. An open floor lets them spread out with blocks, sprawl across a puzzle, or turn a blanket into a fort. That unclaimed square footage isn’t empty; it’s an invitation to create.
It’s the racetrack, the dance stage, the landing pad for a crash of stuffed animals. It flexes to whatever play requires in the moment.
There’s also a psychological element. A cluttered, jam-packed playroom overwhelms the senses. A balanced room, with built-in breathing space, helps kids focus and settle into deeper, longer play.
That’s where the real magic happens. The open space is where imagination stretches, problem-solving sharpens, and siblings actually cooperate (truly, we've seen it firsthand!).
At Greenwich Play, we design with intention. We believe the blank space in a playroom is every bit as important as the materials and furniture. Because it’s in that open space that children grow bolder, calmer, and more inventive. It’s what gives play its wings.
