Hart Family Playroom
Being born and raised in NYC comes with certain truths, like loving the New York Knicks with every fiber of my being (even when it's tough).
So, imagine me sitting in traffic, casually scrolling my phone (responsibly!) when I spot a DM notification. And not just any DM, it's from Josh Hart: "Hey love your page. Would love to see if you can come to the house and potentially do a play area for the boys."
Fast forward six months, and I am sitting in the playroom I'd designed for Josh Hart and his family, WITH Josh Hart and his family.
The Design Process
The playroom design process started like every other project: with a simple intake. We wanted to get to know Shannon and Josh’s twin boys, Hendrix and Haze, so that we could transition an existing space on their second floor into a dedicated playspace that truly matched their needs and interests.
Careful Considerations
At two years old, the boys needed space to explore together and independently. This meant areas for collaboration and others for quiet solo play. We also intentionally organized the playroom in a way that made sense to the boys and helped facilitate the types of play we wanted to see transpire. Nestig was a perfect partner, and we used several pieces from their newly launched kids' collection. Shannon mentioned how much the boys LOVE the mini chairs! “They are easy to move around and create a perfect cozy place to hang out. They also love to stand on them to use their magnetic boards.”
Superstar Comfort
Also top of mind was creating space for Mom and Dad to be comfortable. When you’re a professional basketball player, you need support! A cushion on the floor is not going to work. The COOP Couch offered Josh and Shannon the ability to hang comfortably without compromising on style or functionality. Shannon says, "We LOVE The couch. We love that we can move it around and change the configuration in the room. Josh is happy that there is now a comfortable place for him to sit while hanging with the kids!"
New York or Nowhere
One of the room's most special features is the Pepper Home x Greenwich Play New York City wallpaper. This wallpaper is part of a special collaboration launching this fall, featuring different wallpapers meant to inspire purposeful play. As Shannon says about the wallpaper, "We love it! The kids love the taxis, we count them and it really sets the tone for the space."
Designing this space was more than just a career milestone; it was an unforgettable life moment. Huge thanks to Josh, Shannon, Hendrix, and Haze for trusting Greenwich Play, and thank you to all of our partners who helped make this dream come true!
