Design Beyond the Remote

At Greenwich Play, we’re big believers that the playroom should be a launchpad for imagination, movement, and connection, not screen time. Even when turned off, a TV in the playroom quietly changes the dynamic of the space. ⁠

With a TV in the playroom, it's always an option. It's an easy fallback, pulling attention away from the forts that could be built, the puppet shows waiting to be staged, or the Lego city mid-construction.⁠

Our general rule? If the playroom is meant to be the epicenter of active, creative play, skip the TV altogether. Out of sight, out of mind is a very real thing when it comes to kids and screens.⁠

That said, there are exceptions. In some homes, the playroom is also the only comfortable gathering spot for the whole family to watch a movie together. In that case, the goal is to keep the TV from dominating the room’s identity. ⁠
