In playroom design, we often focus on those "wow" features: climbing walls, pretend play stages, swings, and all the neat elements that spark imagination.
However, a genuinely successful playroom supports children through all stages of play. Real play has its ups and downs, just like life. Sometimes, there’s frustration, overstimulation, or even dysregulation.
✨️That’s why it’s essential to design spaces that support those moments, too.✨️
For example, quiet corners, sensory-friendly nooks, or cozy reading areas provide a safe retreat when children need a break. These spots can help a child self-regulate and return to play feeling refreshed and grounded.
Calming colors, soft textures, and flexible seating options also add a layer of comfort and support, letting kids take a moment to breathe before diving back into their imaginative worlds.
Designing a playroom isn’t just about maximizing excitement; it’s about ensuring children feel safe, supported, and capable of handling whatever emotions come up during play.

Did you know that basketball was invented in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith, a Canadian physical education instructor, to keep his students active indoors during the winter?
The original game used a soccer ball, and instead of hoops, the players aimed for peach baskets nailed to the wall!
Things have changed a little, but the intention remains the same: keep kids active!

As children’s cognitive needs evolve, creating intentional spaces that accommodate traditional homework and encourage project-based learning becomes essential.
A well-designed space can bridge structured learning with creative exploration, fostering academic success while nurturing curiosity and independent thinking.
Modular furniture, open surfaces, and accessible storage ensure children have the tools and freedom to experiment, build models, conduct experiments, or work on multi-step projects.
This dual-purpose design helps children transition seamlessly between academic tasks and exploratory play, reinforcing that learning is a dynamic process, not just confined to books or assignments.

Something I rarely talk about is the culture we’ve created at Greenwich Play. Our team is comprised of talented professionals from various backgrounds, many of whom are women who took a break from their careers to focus on their families.
Caroline Caito, our newest team member, is the perfect example. After ten years in the accounting and finance industry (and two toddlers later!), Caroline took a leap of faith and leaned into her passion for organization, interior design, and early childhood.
Like so many others on our team, Caroline's journey is a testament to the fact that there is no one right path—and we’re better for it. Caroline’s insight as a mom and a professional enriches our team, and we’re thrilled to have her join us as our newest project manager and organization extraordinaire!

The built-in @ikea cabinets provide seamless and accessible storage solutions, neatly tucking away everything from toys to costumes. The subtle LED lighting adds a magical element, making the space feel like a cool hideaway.
Designed with both function and whimsy, this playroom blends comfort and style, creating an environment where play thrives naturally.

Way-up-high closets no one can access (swipe, for example) should be reserved for homes desperate for storage.
This is not one of those homes.
